In the Western world shows that public sentiment are very common. You will often see couples holding hands and kissing in public. No-one even thinks twice if they see this in public. It is considered very normal behaviour. But despite Thailand’s reputation among many Westerners as being the sex capital of the world, Thai culture actually frowns upon public displays of affection.
No Thai women, even bar girls, feel comfortable with public displays of affection. Public kissing is seen as shameful and lack of thought. As Thailand has started to become more westernized, you may see some couples holding hands, but this only tens to happen in Bangkok.
If you have a Thai girlfriend, she may even expect you to walk a few feet away from her when out in public in Thailand. To the Western man this may seem like she has lost interest in you, but this is very important to the Thai woman. In most parts of Thailand, if a Thai woman is seen holding hands with a Western man, it might be assumed that she is a bar girl and that you are her customer. She wants to avoid these judgements at all costs, so respect her wishes.
But what’s interesting is that it parts of Thailand it’s very normal to see two women holding hands, because they are friends and are therefore allowed to show affection to each other.
On Thai television, lip kissing has only recently begun to appear in some of the latest films. And often, the kissing will be done by a double, because the Thai actress doesn’t want the stigma of being seen kissing.
Thai culture is very conservative, despite what you may have seen in parts of Bangkok. If you visited Soho in London for a weekend, you wouldn’t assume that the whole of the UK is like that, so don’t make the same assumption about Thailand, based on visiting a few of Bangkok’s entertainment districts.

Muay Thai is a very dangerous form of Kick Boxing that originated out of the country of Thailand. There is some resemblence to this form of Combat Sport and other Indochinese or Southeast Asian forms of Boxing. Cambodia has a similar style which they call the Pradal Serey. Malaysia practices a similar form called Tomoi. The people from Myanmar also known as Burma use a style called Lethwei. And the people from Laos which is also in Southeast Asia practice a style called Muay Lao.
Muay Thai Boxing is the main Combat Sport and is the considered the National Sport in Thailand. A style called Muay Boran was the old traditional form of Muay Thai where they fought with less rules and wasn’t a sanctioned sport like it is today. Rumor had it that before a fight their hands were wrapped in hemp rope and then dipped in resin and small glass chips to make these fights extremely brutal. This sport is frequently known as the “art of 8 limbs”. The reasons this term was coined is because punches, elbows, knees and kicks were used which resemble the 8 points of contact. This is in contradiction to the 2 points that were used in Western Boxing.
The term Nak Muay is given to anyone in Thailand that practices Muay Thai. If someone from the west practices this sport they will be called Nak Muay Farang which means someone foreign that practices this sport. Many different styles of Kick Boxing have been practiced within Southeast Asia. Chinese Martial Arts Masters say that these disciplines have been practiced for about 2000 years. They also believe that Cambodia had a big effect of spreading these styles all over Southeast Asia.
They believe that Muay Boran, the old style of Muay Thai, was used by Siamese soldiers after they lost their weapons during a war. Some believe the Siamese Military created this sport from Krabi Krabong, but others believe they were both created at the same time. Krabi Krabong had a lot of influence and set the stage for Muay Thai. This sport then went on in Thailand to be fought in front of many spectators and even for entertainment for Kings.

Most people who are planning for a vacation need not worry about the problems of having a visa and other such legal licenses. Except a few countries, all people from all over the world are allowed to be guests in the kingdom of Thailand. The Immigration law of Thailand allows a person to stay in Thailand without a visa for a period of about 30 days. This law is very much helpful for tourists as most tours do not exceed a time limit of 30 days. This avoids the strain of running for visas when we are planning for a vacation. An extended period of 15 days may also be approved by the government on applying for it in the immigration office. Thus tourists are saved from these complicated steps to be undergone for getting visas and all, by the government itself.
But if a person wants to stay in Thailand for a long period of time as a settler then he or she will have to clear out all the norms put forth by the government. The Immigration law for the Kingdom of Thailand imposes rigorous punishments upon immigrants leading up to extend of giving death sentences. Immigrants may be of many types such as tourists, visitor transit, non- quota immigrant, non immigrant, and immigrants. People must apply for a visa in order to stay at any country for a longer time. Visas are of many types such as Non immigrant visa, tourist visa, etc. Non immigrant visas are taken by people who have other motives for being in Thailand rather than being a tourist. Other relevant documents may also be needed for non immigrants.
As per the immigration law for the Kingdom of Thailand, any ‘application’ is considered just as a request for staying in Thailand on a temporary basis. An official staff advised by the Commissioner General of the Thailand police headquarters only has the right to provide permit to people for a temporary stay. As per the immigration law of Thailand, any person having a valid passport may apply for the visa and if the application is rejected, then he or she may ask for the reason and the official concerned will have to give satisfactory explanations. Then he or she can resubmit the application again. The Thai Government can provide extension for staying at Thailand but it must not exceed 30 days and within this period the person concerned must get a license to stay at Thailand.
For people who plan to migrate to Thailand for the purpose of business, jobs, etc, permission may be granted which will not exceed a time period of one year. In most of the cases such as enrollment in a government institution, office, family member of a resident family, etc, the period will never extend one year at a time.
There are many procedures to be followed while submitting the application and it need not be accepted even though almost all details given in the application are most perfect. Sometimes the officials may find out some problem in granting the permission. The rules laid by the immigration law of the Kingdom of Thailand are rather complicated and might seem to be confusing for outsiders. Most Thai officials try not to cause problems and so immigration to the kingdom of Thailand is considered much strain less. The Immigration Law of the Kingdom of Thailand provides one of the vast studies upon the rules imposed on immigration. It is to be studied by all people planning to immigrate to the kingdom.
